EMPLOYEE SURVEY

EVALUATING EMPLOYEE EXPECTATIONS, SATISFACTION AND RETENTION

Employee surveys are surveys of a company's own employees. They generate information on expectations, satisfaction, and perception of a company by existing employees. The term employee survey also includes the terms employee survey, employee expectations survey, or employee satisfaction survey.

Employee surveys are used to generate information and a mood picture on topics such as:

  • Corporate image
  • Corporate goals
  • Leadership competence
  • Departmental goals
  • Continuing education
  • Corporate communication
  • Work processes
  • Customer orientation
  • CSR
  • Employee retention

Only satisfied employees can satisfy or inspire customers. That's why it's important to conduct such surveys regularly and use the results for optimization. In addition to methodologically correct implementation, aspects of data protection and proper communication are key elements of successful employee surveys.

SURVEY METHODS

Only two survey methods can be considered for employee surveys: written surveys and online surveys. If the survey is to be conducted online, special attention must be paid to the issue of anonymity of the survey, since in many cases employees know that data collected online can be traced back to the individual level.

The particular sensitivity of this instrument requires professional design, implementation, and communication, as even the neglect of superficially insignificant points in communication can lead to a major loss of trust on the part of employees. In such cases, the data collected can only be used to a very limited extent, and the instrument of the employee survey is perceived negatively by the workforce for a long time.

HOW IS AN EMPLOYEE SURVEY CONDUCTED BY CONCERTARE?

An employee survey is used to record and evaluate the assessment and opinions of employees. The type of survey is agreed with the client and in most cases relates to satisfaction with working conditions. If desired, the relationship of trust with the supervisor can also be included.

concertare conducts employee surveys anonymously and in compliance with all data protection regulations. The survey is conducted in writing on paper sheets or online via a digital questionnaire. Preparation and implementation are usually carried out in cooperation with the personnel department (human resources). Once the survey has been commissioned, the objectives of the survey must be defined in consultation with you.

Experience has shown that an employee survey runs better when those involved know the background, and there is transparency with regard to the objectives and the procedure. We then work with you to draw up the questionnaire and ensure that all questions are formulated correctly. If there have already been previous surveys, these surveys can be included for  comparison. A pretest is possible on request. After completion and approval of the questionnaire, concertare takes over the implementation in digital or printed form. After completion of the surveys, a prompt analysis and evaluation take place. Depending on your wishes, data is reported in management summaries, management reports, presentations, and tables. We place particular emphasis on the creation of comprehensible reports that are adapted to the intended user group of management or employees in terms of presentation and visualization.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF AN EMPLOYEE SURVEY?

The aim is to gain a better understanding of the factors that contribute to employee satisfaction and retention. In many cases, the findings from employee surveys also provide concrete management information: Fluctuation rates can be reduced by specifically influencing the factors for good employee retention. Errors in work processes are uncovered and eliminated. Malfunctions in processes can be identified and reduced. The overall quality of work is increased. Processes in the company are analyzed through the survey. Direct feedback from employees promotes communication at all levels of the company and motivates employees to become involved in change processes.

WHAT TOPICS WILL BE ASKED?

Contents of the employee survey are usually expectations and satisfaction of the employees on the topics:

  • Work motivation
  • Work content
  • Workplace
  • Leadership
  • Internal communication
  • Further education
  • Satisfaction
  • Loyalty

HOW MANY QUESTIONS SHOULD AN EMPLOYEE SURVEY INCLUDE?

More important than the number of questions is the wording of the questionnaire. Poorly formulated questions lead to different answers and a distortion of the results. Usually, a survey comprises a large number of closed questions supplemented by open questions. In most cases, an employee survey comprises fewer than 100 questions and can be answered within 30 minutes. However, the number of questions also depends on the objectives of the survey and the target group of employees.

HOW ANONYMOUS ARE EMPLOYEE SURVEYS?

The anonymity of the submitted employee opinions is an indispensable prerequisite for a trusting cooperation. When conducted by concertare, absolute confidentiality is guaranteed. All surveys are anonymized. Since the evaluation is carried out by us, it is also not possible to draw conclusions about employee responses.

WHAT DOES AN EMPLOYEE SURVEY COST?

The cost of the survey depends on the number of employees surveyed and the requirement criteria. Factors such as the internal workload for preparation and coordination must also be included. A cost breakdown is only possible after an interview.

The workload is divided into:

  • Questionnaire development
  • Conducting the survey
  • Evaluation
  • Visual presentation
  • Presentation of results
  • Subsequent measures (e.g., results workshops)

WHY SHOULD YOU SET UP AN EMPLOYEE SURVEY?

With an employee survey, you enable your employees to actively participate in shaping the working environment. Employees who participate in an employee survey show an interest in the company. With professional communication and systematic implementation of the identified optimization potential, the benefits are manifold. The working atmosphere is improved, and cohesion and commitment are increased. Costs are also reduced due to lower fluctuation and a reduction in sick leave costs. Employees become more loyal to the company.

HOW LONG HAS CONCERTARE BEEN CONDUCTING EMPLOYEE SURVEYS?

concertare has been conducting employee surveys since its foundation in 1998. We support the preparation, implementation, and communication of the results with workshops and permanent supervision. Several employees supervise your project in a specially established project team. Every step of the process is also controlled by the four-eyes principle. Plausibility checks and automated test routines are standard.
